Dr. Barbara Landau, President of Cooperative Solutions, is a Psychologist, Lawyer, Mediator & Trainer. In 2004, Dr. Landau received the Long Term Achievement Award (FAMMA) from Family Mediation Canada. In 2003, she received the "Distinguished Mediator Award" from the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR). In 2002, The "Award For Excellence in Dispute Resolution" was given to her by the Ontario Bar Association (OBA). The lifetime title of "Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association", was awarded for outstanding contribution to clinical psychology.

Barbara is a Chartered Mediator, a Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator and a Family Arbitrator. She has successfully resolved family law and estate disputes as a mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator. In addition she has succeeded in resolving workplace disputes and as a Roster member of the OMMP-Toronto, she mediated commercial, wrongful dismissal, medical malpractice and personal injury matters.

Barbara is a former:

  • Executive member of the ADR Section of the Ontario Bar Association
  • Vice President of the ADR Institute of Ontario and current Board member
  • President of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation
  • Executive Board member of the Academy of Family Mediators (now ACR)
  • Director of the Psychology Foundation of Canada, chairing the "In Place of Violence" Committee.

Barbara has published numerous articles on mediation and collaborative law. Her newest book entitled "The Family Mediation, Collaborative Practice and Family Arbitration Handbook", 5th Edition was released in the Fall of 2009, which she co-authored with Lorne Wolfson and Niki Landau. She also co-authored "From Conflict to Creativity" in 2001 with Sy Landau and Daryl Landau.

Dr. Landau specializes in helping couples with children to develop personalized long term Parenting Plans during their separation, divorce and post-divorce. Her past experience in both Psychology and Law enable her to work with you and your spouse in the development of a Parenting Plan that clearly addresses the best interests of your children. Dr. Landau teaches separating couples through the Ministry of the Attorney General's Mandatory "Family Information Sessions" that all parents must attend who have filed a court application for separation or divorce.

She has offered conflict resolution, and mediation workshops in several countries, as well as family arbitration and collaborative practice courses, to lawyers, mental health professionals, teachers, students, human resources specialists, and others. Many of these courses are offered through the University of Waterloo, Conrad Grebel University College.
